Voices from the Streets Part 40- Positive Influence

By Nixon Dickenson

In this week’s Voices from the Streets, I want to share an inspirational conversation with Trent Dickenson. I’ve known him for years and watched him evolve into a successful young businessman.

He is involved in several companies in the country: Advance Secure Contractors, Marketing Brother Group, Luxe Events, and Advance Security. I want to share Trent’s advice to highlight that young men should always seek to influence their lives positively. Trent shared that he could not have accomplished as much as he did if it had not been for the positive-minded people he aligned with and identified with.

In our conversation, he highlighted individuals such as Leo Lightbourne, Desilene Smith and Renardo Cunningham among his most significant supporters and inspirations. He shared that had it not been for their influence, he would not be where he is today.  In Trent’s view, there is no reason for excuse for uplifting and supporting young people in our society.

He shared that he fully understands how easy it is to become discouraged, especially when it seems you are going against all odds. However, he shared that positive influence in his life always helped him realize that when one door closed, another would open. He also believes that when you find an open door, you take others with you, as there is more than enough room on the journey to success.  Trent shared that no man is an island, and although some persons do well individually, imagine the possibilities when we all work together.

One of his passions is mentoring upcoming artists. He believes in this vision because it allows young men to express themselves and potentially develop a professional path. He sees this as his way of giving back to his community, as he understands too well what happens when people give up on you. Trent shared that he was often counted out as a high school student.

However, many believed in his potential, propelling him to decide to do better and be better. He shared that he knows his success comes from the support he received from his community, friends and the blessings of God. Having strong, positive support never fails.  Trent concluded by emphasizing the need for young people to become involved in a trade, which can lead to self-employment and productivity.

He shared that the time is now for the positive role models in our society to step up and overshadow the negative influences, as it is never too late to make a difference.  Trent’s journey is truly inspiring! His story highlights the power of positive influences and community support in achieving success. It’s heartwarming to see how he’s giving back by mentoring young artists and encouraging others to pursue trades for self-employment and productivity.

His belief in collective success and the importance of uplifting others is a powerful message for young people today. Young people, you do not have to become a statistic. Choose someone who can positively influence you, and do it now.
