In this week’s Voices from the Streets, I want to share an inspirational conversation with Denzel Moore. I’ve known Denzel all his life as a good friend and close cousin.
Guided by his religious upbringing as a member of the Anglican denomination and his strong Christian values, he always dreamt of becoming a Priest where he could serve his members in the Turks and Caicos and Bahamas circuit of Anglican churches. His other desire is to be employed with Carnival Cruises.
However, he has not given up on his dream of becoming a Priest. He admitted that his pathway significantly differs from the average young man chasing other influential careers. However, he believes that his calling to go into religious affairs would help to make a difference in the lives of our young people.
He shared that if there is ever a time when more young people need to be involved in positive activities, it is now. Denzel shared that community bands and church groups present great opportunities for young people to develop their skills and interact in spaces where they can be supported and supervised.
He said that these types of activities are possible with the involvement of committed and caring community support. Denzel shared that growing up, it was important for young people to attend Boys’ Scouts and Girls’ Guide Club meetings. This is where they learn essential life skills necessary for their development.
He shared that too little of this is seen throughout the islands today; however, he is thankful that many organisations continue these critical traditions.
Denzel shared that as a youth, he always wanted to participate in positive activities that influenced his desire to live a godly lifestyle. He shared that he was never concerned about being different because he knew there was always a consequence for negative behaviours.
He shared that too many young men find themselves in problems because they fear not fitting in with the crowd. He also shared that sometimes, society makes it hard for young people to be discriminated against based on their social status.
Denzel’s message to young people is never to be afraid to be different and never give up just because you may have had a slower start in life. Denzel is always willing to shine his light and share his testimony of faith, knowing that he, too, can bring about positive change in our society. Denzel story is truly inspiring!
His dedication to his faith and dream of becoming a Priest is truly admirable. It was wonderful to hear how he values positive community activities and the impact they can have on young people. His message about not being afraid to be different and persevering despite challenges is powerful and much-needed in our country. Thank you Denzel!
