Urgent Appeal to Address Demolition Turks and Caicos Islander's Home

South Caicos PDM writes open letter to Premier about demolition exercise

Hynetta Forbes

Dear Premier and Deputy Premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands,

I am writing with great concern about the recent demolition of a portion of a Turks and Caicos islander's home, a daughter of the soil of South Caicos residing in Providenciales.

The news of this demolition has deeply troubled me and brought tears to my eyes. It represents a distressing violation of an individual's property and rights.

Homeownership is a fundamental aspect of one's security and identity, and such actions can have severe implications for the affected individual and their family.

While I acknowledge the existence of laws and regulations governing property and construction, I urge you to consider the human impact of these actions. There must be mechanisms in place to ensure that the rights and well-being of Turks and Caicos islanders are protected, even in situations where enforcement of regulations is necessary.

I urge you to investigate this matter promptly and take steps to address the demolition of any other Turks and Caicos islander's home.

It is crucial that fairness, compassion, and respect for individual rights guide our actions in such circumstances.

I appeal to you to provide assistance and support to the affected individual in rectifying this situation and restoring their home to its rightful state. Every effort should be made to mitigate the harm caused and to ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future.

I trust in your commitment to justice and fairness and urge you to prioritize the well-being and rights of all Turks and Caicos islanders affected by this unjust demolition.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. I look forward to your swift and compassionate response to address this issue.

Sincerely,

Hynetta Karen Forbes

PDM Candidate ED3
