The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RTCIPF) has made a significant drug interception during the early hours of Tuesday morning, December 31st.
The incident unfolded shortly after 3:00 AM when the Radar Operations Center alerted the Marine Branch to a suspicious vessel spotted three miles off the coast of Providenciales.
Responding to this urgent call, officers from the RTCIPF, alongside members of the TCI Regiment and Border Force, quickly located a blue boat equipped with two powerful outboard engines. As the officers initiated a pursuit, they observed suspicious activity on board; individuals were seen discarding packages into the ocean in a desperate attempt to dispose of evidence.
Upon retrieving the discarded packages, officers were stunned to discover they contained what is suspected to be cannabis, totaling an impressive weight of 182.02 pounds, spread across 38 distinct packages, and with an estimated street value of $826,440.00.
The Anti-Gang and Drug Unit is currently conducting a thorough investigation into this incident. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the identity of the vessel remains unknown. Assistant Commissioner (ag) Dwight Gardiner praised the rapid and effective response of the Radar Operations Center, the Marine Branch, and other involved agencies, highlighting the RTCIPF's unwavering commitment to eradicating illicit drug activities in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
In light of this important operation, the RTCIPF is urging the community to remain vigilant.
