The oldest native festival in the Turks & Caicos Islands, the South Caicos Regatta, returns with fervor.
Scheduled to take place from May 24th and 25th , 2024, at the Regatta Village in South Caicos, this year's celebration promises two days packed with exhilarating activities under the theme "Sailing the HB Way."
President Ludell Goldman, emphasized the essence of sailboat races to the festival's rich history. "Sailboat races are the heart and soul of our Regatta," Goldman remarked. "They embody the spirit of tradition and camaraderie that defines this event."
This year's Regatta, condensed to two days, will not feature the customary pageant due to ongoing construction at East Bay Resort, soon to be Salterra, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa. Despite accommodation challenges, Vice President Michilia Clare expressed optimism, citing the island's historical success in hosting Regattas sans hotels. "Our Regattas have always been a triumph, with or without hotels. We encourage everyone to join us, share rooms, and experience the magic of South Caicos," Clare urged.
While accommodations may be limited, the Committee is doubling down on cultural activities, including maypole tying, donkey races, and a domino tournament. However, the highlight remains the entertainment lineup, featuring the electrifying Higher Level Band from the Bahamas, alongside TCI's own DJ Shakes, Gemma, Prime DJs, Provision Band, and more.
The Higher Level Band brings a unique blend of entertainment, showmanship, and musicality. Led by co-leaders Samuel Murphy and JD Stewart, the band promises an unforgettable experience, delivering top-tier performances that set the standard for excellence in the entertainment industry.
Reflecting on the festival's rich history, spanning 57 years, it's evident that South Caicos has overcome challenges and evolved. From its roots in salt production to its prominence as a cultural hub, South Caicos embodies resilience and promise.
