In the doubleheader of the Turks and Caicos Islands Football Association (TCIFA) Premier League, second from bottom Teachers FC held league leaders Sharks to a 1-1 scoreline in the feature of Saturday’s double header at the TCIFA Academy Field, Venetian Road, Providenciales.
It was Sharks who grabbed the lead early in the first half, and were enjoying good ball possession, though Teachers remained competitive. That lead was cancelled out late in the first half, through a slick coordination between the Teachers midfield and strike-force, to end the half even.
The second half saw end-to-end action, both the defense of both teams performed brilliant on the day. And despite numerous attacks, both teams managed to avoid being scored against until the final whistle.
In the curtain raiser, lead threateners Blue Hills move within a point of the Sharks after outscoring Beaches FC 4-2, and another competitive encounter. It was Blue Hills that grabbed the lead midway the first half, but Beaches roared back, to not only equalize, but grab the lead. But Blue Hills managed to draw level before the break.
Action was still intense in the second half, but it was Blue Hills, who provided the better opportunities on goal, and so they netted two in the bottom half to ensure the win.
Sharks, who entered last weekend’s competition with a three-point lead, now have a slender one-point lead as a result of the draw. Blue Hills, as a result of the win, are now on 19 points. Beaches remain in third position on 15 points, followed by Eagles FC on 12 points, then second from bottom Teachers on second points, followed by bottom-of-the-table Flamingo FC on 3 points.
The competition continues this weekend.
