Sharks Begin Title Defense On Winning Note

Defending Champions SWA Sharks began their defense of the Turks and Caicos Islands Football Association (TCIFA) Provo Premier League Apertura 2023-2024 season on a successful note.


The Sharks outscored Flamingo Football Club 4-2 in the kick-off of the competition in the curtain raiser at the TCIFA Field on Saturday. Though Sharks won by a comfortable margin, it was Flamingo FC who drew first blood, when in the 21st minute Delbrun Roxex found the back of the net, to give his team the lead going into the halftime interval.

However, Sharks began to press as the opening whistle to signal the second half was blown, and their purposefulness immediately bore fruit when in the 46th minute their number 8 player Angelyn Cadet netted.


Undaunted, Flamingo continued to press for the ascendancy one more, and got it the 50th minute through their number 14 player Paul Wilson, to make the score 2-1.

Behind once more, the defending champions turned up the volume, as they pressed for the equalizer, but Flamingo stood resolute until in the 85th minute when the fleetfooted Junior Paul make his team draw level.


And then three minutes later in the 88th minute Junior Belzaire netted to give his team the lead for the first time in the contest. Joseph Friend-Lerr then netted with seconds to go, to give his team the 4-2 win.


Junior Paul was named Most Valuable Player for his team, while Peterson Hillaire was named Flamingo’s MVP.


In the feature encounter, Teachers opened their account on a winning note, beating the fancied Cheshire Hall 2-0, with goals coming from Charles Snell and Ismeal Athis. Snell scored in the 4th minute and Athis sealed the issue in the 89th minute of play.


Charles Snell was voted MVP for Cheshire Hall team.

Snell was adjudged MVP for his team, while Ralph Sylvestre was the Cheshire Hall MVP.


The competition continues this Saturday, October 7 with a double header at the same venue. In the curtain raiser beginning at 6:30p.m. Sharks will go up against Cheshire Hall. And in the feature encounter at 8:30p.m. Flamingo will match skills against Eagles.
