In 2010, she transitioned to the Road Safety Department as an Administrative Assistant and was later promoted to the post of Administrative Officer within the Ministry of Home Affairs.
While in the Ministry of Home Affairs Ms. Thompson acted in the position of Executive Administrator prior to being promoted 18 months ago to the post of Senior Finance Officer in the Financial Services and Supplies Management Department (Treasury). In this post, she assisted in the oversight and management of the government’s finances, as well as provided support to the Payroll and Pensions Unit where she gained advanced knowledge and experience in the payroll system and procedures.
Commenting on her recent appointment, Ms. Thompson stated:
“I live by the words of Jeremiah 29:11: For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future.
It is with that in mind and with great humility that I accept the position of Head of Secretariat and give God all the thanks for presenting me with this opportunity and for making all things possible.
I am excited about taking on this new role in the Ministry of Physical Planning and Infrastructural Development, where I will continue to contribute to the successful management of the ministry. I believe that my professional background along with experience gained over the years has prepared me to serve in this role.
I remain committed to supporting my team as we work diligently and strategically to advance the goals and objectives of this ministry.”
Acting Governor and Head of the Public Service Her Excellency Anya Williams in extending congratulatory remarks to Ms. Thompson said:
“It gives me great pleasure to congratulate Ms. Shanetta Thompson on her second promotion in the last two years. Shanetta, a long serving civil servant with a desire to accomplish more during her public service career. While being a full time employee and mother, Ms. Thompson applied for and was successful in receiving a full scholarship from the Turks and Caicos Islands Civil Service Professional Development Fund which she utilized to further her educational studies at the Turks and Caicos Islands Community College to assist in preparing herself for this new role. This is a testament of her hard work and dedication that has gotten her to this point.
The role of Head of Secretariat is an important one as it is responsible for coordinating the secretariat functions within the ministry, which includes liaising between the Permanent Secretary and the Minister, and between the Executive Board, Cabinet, and the House of Assembly for the purpose of progressing the business of the ministry through the political and administrative processes.
I am proud of Ms. Thompson’s academic and professional accomplishments and would like to wish her my personal best in this new role.
