The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force has confirmed that a shooting incident in Grace Bay last evening has now been classified as a homicide.
Acting Superintendent Grantley Williams, head of the Serious Crime Unit, provided details on the incident, which occurred on the evening of March 7.
"Shortly after 6:30 pm, officers received multiple calls reporting a shooting in a car park opposite a resort. Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim lying next to a blue Toyota Vitz. The victim was dressed in a white t-shirt and long brown pants and appeared to have sustained gunshot wounds,"Â Williams stated.
The injured man was immediately transported to a medical facility for urgent treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries at 7:35 pm. Police have identified the deceased as Ricardo Pierre.
"We extend our deepest condolences to Mr. Pierre’s family and friends during this difficult time," Williams added.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Mr. Pierre was walking toward his vehicle when a lone gunman approached and opened fire. The suspect then fled the scene in a vehicle.
"Our findings so far indicate that this was a targeted attack. We are actively pursuing all leads to determine the full circumstances surrounding this tragedy. We are urging anyone who witnessed this incident or has video footage to come forward,"Â Williams urged.
Authorities are appealing to members of the public who may have information to contact their nearest police station, dial 911, or reach out to the Serious Crime Unit at 231-1842.
