In a determined effort to combat the surge of criminal activity plaguing the Turks and Caicos Islands over recent months, the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RTCIPF) has enlisted the support of officers from the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF).
This marks the second time in just over a year that the TCI police have reached out to their Bahamian counterparts for assistance in quelling criminality within the region.
In 2022, the RBPF played a pivotal role in dismantling a prospective criminal empire led by Bradon Rahming, who, according to voicemails obtained by law enforcement, had been plotting to turn the TCI into a hub for drug and gun trafficking.
The swearing-in ceremony for the newly enlisted officers took place on September 5, at the Police Headquarters on Airport Road, Providenciales.
Acting Commissioner of Police Rodney Adams presided over the ceremony, which was attended by distinguished guests including Her Excellency Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam, Acting Premier Hon. Erwin Jay Saunders, and the Attorney General Hon. Rhondalee Braithwaite-Knowles.
Commissioner of Police for the Royal Bahamas Police Force, Clayton Fernander, and his executive team witnessed the proceedings virtually.
The officers from the RBPF bring a wealth of expertise in various specialty areas and will work in collaboration with the Tactical Unit of the RTCIPF.
In her address to the officers, Her Excellency Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam commended their commitment and sacrifice, stating, "Thank you for putting yourselves out there. We know how seriously you take this threat to the TCI, and we are looking forward to your continued cooperation. There is a deep-seated respect and understanding of what we have to do together. I appreciate and respect the collaboration in moving forward. This is not something we are taking lightly. We know what you are putting on the line," she said.
Commissioner Fernander echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the professionalism of the RBPF officers and their dedication to the cause. He assured the TCI authorities of their readiness to provide any necessary support and training, stating, "Whatever training we can give to assist, know that we are here."
Acting Commissioner Adams expressed gratitude for the prompt assistance provided by the RBPF, emphasizing the importance of their partnership within law enforcement.
The ceremony was attended by other high-ranking law enforcement officials, including Assistant Commissioners of Police Kendall Grant and Darron Williams, Superintendents of Police Willet Harvey and Mat Newton, and Assistant Superintendent Drexel Porter.
With the joint efforts of the RTCIPF and the RBPF, the Turks and Caicos Islands aim to restore peace and security, sending a clear message to criminal elements that their activities will not be tolerated.
