The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force Traffic Unit has arrested a driver on suspicion of causing the death of a bicyclist on Saturday.
Neither the name of the driver nor the victim was released at news time. The incident took place at about minutes past 7 pm along the Leeward Highway in Providenciales.
According to Takara Bain, the Media Liaison Offer for the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force, officers responded to the Thomas Stubbs roundabout after reports of an accident. On arrival, they found the motionless body of a 42-year-old man lying on the scene.
The police reported that the man was hit by a white Suzuki Swift motorcar, which was heading in the westbound lane.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene despite the best efforts of Emergency Medical Technicians.
The driver of the Suzuki swift motorcar, who reportedly remained at the scene until the arrival of the police, was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The police, who are still gathering information on the matter, is asking anyone with information to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 (TIPS) with any information.
