Ezra Taylor, National Chairman of the People’s Democratic (PDM) has lashed out against local newspaper The TCI SUN for what he termed biased journalism in favour of the ruling Progressive National Party (PNP).
In a statement, Taylor pointed out that The SUN has refused to publish advertisements and press releases on behalf of the PDM. The following is the PDM statement:
The People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) strongly condemns the blatant and unapologetic bias of the TCI SUN and its Editor-in-Chief, Hayden Boyce, in favour of the Progressive National Party (PNP).
This is not merely a political endorsement—this is the systemic and strategic attempt to manipulate Turks and Caicos Islanders through one-sided reporting, censorship, and an outright refusal to cover the issues fairly and accurately during this election season.
It is now evident, based on written communication with the PDM, that the TCI SUN has deliberately refused to publish articles or advertisements from our party, denying the people of this country a balanced perspective on the pressing issues at stake.
This is a direct attack on democracy and an insult to the people of the Turks and Caicos Islands, who deserve objective and unbiased journalism, not a media house serving as the propaganda arm of the PNP.
This marks a dark and shameful chapter in the history of journalism in the TCI. The press is supposed to be a pillar of democracy—a check on power, a voice for the people, and a fair and open forum for political discourse. Instead, the TCI SUN has chosen to undermine this sacred responsibility, aligning itself with the PNP’s desperate attempt to manipulate the electorate.
What was once a respected media house has now reduced itself to a political tool, disregarding every principle of journalistic integrity. Make no mistake—Turks and Caicos Islanders are not fooled by this last-ditch effort to prop up a failing government. The PNP, having delivered nothing but broken promises and failed leadership over the last four years, is now relying on the TCI SUN to do its bidding. But the people of this country see through the lies, the bias, and the manipulation. The people watched the recent debate and saw with their own eyes a Premier void of real leadership; a Premier out of touch with the issues impacting Turks and Caicos Islanders; a Premier desperately making empty promises to cling to power.
No amount of editorial protection can hide the truth: The PNP has failed, and no biased media coverage can save them. We call upon all other media houses in the Turks and Caicos Islands to uphold the principles of fair and balanced journalism. It is imperative that all political parties and independent candidates be given equal opportunity to communicate their vision, policies, and plans to the electorate.
The media should never serve as a mouthpiece for any political party—it should serve the people. This election is about truth, transparency, and the future of our country. The PDM remains committed to engaging directly with the people through every available medium to ensure our message is heard loud and clear. We will not be silenced, and we will not allow biased media coverage to distort the reality of this election.
On February 7th, the people of the Turks and Caicos will have their say—not the TCI SUN, not the PNP, but the people. And the people will choose leadership they can trust. Vote PDM. Vote for Change. Your Future is Our Priority.
