The People’s Democratic Movement (PDM) has issued a strong statement condemning Premier Hon. Washington Misick for what it terms as baseless and inflammatory allegations against the party.

The PDM stated that at a ruling Progressive National Party (PNP) rally in Wheeland over the weekend, Premier Misick accused individuals aligned with the PDM of planning to set fire to the Providenciales Dump the night before the February 7 elections.

The PDM has categorically denied these claims, calling them outrageous, false, and a deliberate attempt to incite fear and distract voters from pressing national issues. In their statement, the party expressed deep concern over what it claims was the Premier’s reckless remarks, describing them as a dangerous misuse of his position and a blatant effort to undermine the democratic process.

“At a time when the Turks and Caicos Islands are grappling with the tragic double homicide in Grace Bay and a surge in crime, Premier Misick’s comments are particularly egregious,” the PDM stated. “Rather than focusing on solutions to address the escalating crime wave and ensure the safety of our communities, the Premier has chosen to spread lies and fuel division.”

The PDM revealed that they have formally written to Acting Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey, requesting an immediate investigation into the Premier’s claims. Additionally, they have appealed to Her Excellency, Governor Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam, urging her to publicly condemn the Premier’s rhetoric.

As the representative of good governance and the rule of law in the Turks and Caicos Islands, the Governor, the PDM argues, has a responsibility to address this matter and hold Premier Misick accountable for his dangerous and unfounded statements.

“Failure to act on this issue would signal complicity in the Premier’s attempts to manipulate the electorate and derail the principles of free and fair elections,” the statement read.

The PDM emphasized that the upcoming election is a critical opportunity to address the real issues affecting the nation, including crime, illegal migration, and economic stagnation. They accused the PNP of deflecting from their shortcomings in these areas through fear-mongering and divisive tactics.

“This election is about the future of the Turks and Caicos Islands, not about lies and distractions,” the PDM declared. “Premier Misick’s desperate attempts to deflect from his administration’s failures only highlight its incompetence and lack of solutions.”

The PDM concluded their statement by urging the people of the Turks and Caicos Islands to reject the politics of fear and division. They called on voters to stand with the PDM for leadership rooted in truth, unity, and a commitment to improving the well-being of the nation.
