A 22-year-old male remains in police custody following his arrest for attempting to introduce prohibited articles into H.M. Prison—Home of the Department of Correction and Rehabilitation in Grand Turk.
According to authorities, the suspect was detained on Sunday, February 23, 2025, during a routine visit to the correctional facility. Prison officers conducted a search of items brought in by the suspect and discovered contraband concealed inside food intended for an inmate.
Following the discovery, officers from the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RT&CIPF) responded promptly, leading to the suspect’s immediate arrest on suspicion of smuggling prohibited items into the facility.
Under the Prisons Ordinance – Section 11, any individual who:
(d) Takes any prohibited article to or from any prisoner, whether such prisoner is in prison or in custody outside a prison; or
(e) Deposits any prohibited article in any place, whether in a prison or outside a prison, with the intent that it shall come into the possession of a prisoner, commits an offence and is liable upon summary conviction to a fine of $10,000 or up to two years of imprisonment, or both.
Law enforcement officials continue their investigation into the matter. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to preventing illicit activities within correctional institutions and have warned individuals against engaging in such offences.
