Immigration Minister Pleased with Progress on HHIA Airside Walkway Canopy Construction

The Turks and Caicos Islands Airports Authority (TCIAA) recently hosted Hon. Arlington Musgrove, Minister of Immigration and Border Services, at the Howard Hamilton International Airport to inspect the ongoing construction of the airside walkway canopy.

The visit on October 9 aimed to ensure the project remains on schedule ahead of the busy season.

With plastering and painting underway, the project is on track to meet its completion target by the end of October 2024. Minister Musgrove, who has a background in construction, expressed his satisfaction with the pace of the work. "The contractors are progressing faster than I expected," he said. "I look forward to seeing how the canopy accommodates passengers once it’s fully operational."

Minister Musgrove emphasized the importance of safety and passenger comfort, noting the presence of experienced contractors and rigorous safety protocols. He praised the project’s ability to improve operational efficiency and provide a more comfortable experience for travelers.

The canopy will offer shaded, breezy spaces for passengers, something the Minister experienced firsthand during his visit. He highlighted the cooler environment as a welcome improvement, especially in situations where passengers might have to wait outside due to terminal congestion.

The project, led by JAG Construction and valued at $2.38 million, is set to be completed by the end of November 2024. It features advanced surveillance systems, integrated lighting, and weather-resistant structures. These upgrades will enhance both passenger safety and comfort, ensuring a pleasant experience for all travelers at Howard Hamilton International Airport.
