The Helena Jones Robinson High School is still basking in their National High School Softball triumph, after outclassing Wesley Methodist High School in the two-day competition held on January 27-28, at the Parade Grounds in Grand Turk.
The 2023 champions, playing at home, were cheered on by hundreds of residents who came out to support the various teams in a vivacious display of community and school spirit.
In the semi-finals, dethroned champions British West Indies Collegiate fell short of reaching the top two after being defeated by the eventual champions. Likewise, Clement Howell High School were defeated by Wesley Methodist High School, to springboard themselves in the finals.
Wesley Methodist proved themselves formidable opponents in the final against their Grand Turk counterparts, but their efforts were not enough to conquer them, despite their fearsome pitcher Traeshel Williams. In the end HJ Robinson outlasted Wesley Methodist 14-6.
British West Indies Collegiate copped the third place position, after their victory over the Clement Howell High School 18-5.
Keimari Simons of HJ Robinson High School was adjudged the Tournament’s Championship MVP. Her teammate Keimari Simons was voted Best Defensive Player for the season. Laribel Belen of Wesley Methodist High School was adjudged the tourney’s MVP. Her teammate Shakeathia Taylor of Wesley Methodist was voted Top Hitter.
Traeshel Williams of Wesley Methodist High School walked away with the Season and Championship’s Top Pitcher awards.
