The Safeguarding and Public Protection Unit (SPPU) has charged a Grand Turk resident with sexual offenses involving a minor.
Kervens Cherenfant, 19, was formally charged on February 10, 2025, with two counts of sexual activity with a child under the age of 16.
According to authorities, the alleged incidents occurred between December 2024 and February 2025 and involved a 13-year-old victim. A report was filed with law enforcement on February 6, 2025, prompting an immediate investigation by the SPPU. This led to Cherenfant’s arrest and subsequent charges.
Cherenfant appeared in court today, where he was denied bail. His next scheduled court appearance is set for April 4, 2025, for a Sufficiency Hearing, during which the court will assess whether there is enough evidence for the case to proceed to trial.
The SPPU continues to urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected instances of child abuse. Authorities stress that protecting vulnerable children is a community responsibility and that swift reporting can help prevent further harm.
Community members who suspect or have knowledge of child abuse are encouraged to report concerns immediately through the following channels:
· Visit the nearest police station to file a report in person.
· Call the Safeguarding and Public Protection Unit at 232-6696.
· Contact the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) at 338-4013.
· Reach the Department of Social Development at 338-4008.
· Dial 911 for urgent situations.
All reports made to authorities will be handled with utmost sensitivity and confidentiality. Officials emphasize that swift intervention can be crucial in safeguarding children from abuse and ensuring justice for victims.
The investigation into this case remains ongoing, and authorities encourage anyone with additional information to come forward.
