The DECR in collaboration with the Turks and Caicos Hotel and Tourism Association (TCHTA) Sustainable Tourism Committee, and its partners, is appealing to the community of Grand Turk to assist with 'Operation Beach Clean-up' on Saturday 17 June, 2023.
According to the DECR, recent weather conditions have resulted in a large amount of ocean plastics and debris washing onto shore on the windward side of the island. The debris, it said, poses a serious threat to the health and wellbeing of coastal and marine life, as well as the country's tourism product.
"We appeal to the Grand Turk community to assist us with a large-scale clean-up on East Beach, this Saturday. Meet us outside The Ridge Cafe at 7am. Equipment will be provided, but please be sure to pack a hat and your re-usable water bottle," a statement from the DECR said.
