Governor Her Excellency Dileeni Daniel Selvaratnam has announced the resignation of Edvin Martin as Commissioner of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force.
The resignation, effective immediately, is due to a personal matter requiring Martin’s urgent attention. Martin recently took a short-term leave of absence from the force for ‘personal reasons’, as NewslineTCI understands that he has been battling an ailment.
To ensure stability during this transition, Deputy Commissioner Fitz Bailey will assume the role of Acting Commissioner starting November 22, 2024. Additionally, Mr. Kendall Grant will step in as the second Deputy Commissioner alongside Deputy Commissioner Rodney Adams while the search for a permanent Commissioner is underway.
In her remarks, the Governor expressed gratitude for Mr. Martin’s contributions:
"I thank Mr. Martin for his steadfast dedication, leadership, and services to the people of the Turks and Caicos Islands. This decision was not made lightly, and it reflects a personal matter that Mr. Martin and his family must address. We wish him the best during this time."
She highlighted the importance of maintaining stability within the Force:
"Our focus is to ensure the stability of the Force and its resilience to tackle the threats we face. I am confident Mr. Bailey is well-placed to lead the Force, drawing on his wealth of complex crime experience and strategic leadership. I also commend the officers of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force for their continued professionalism and service."
The Governor reaffirmed the government’s commitment to public safety and crime prevention:
"Tackling crime and ensuring the safety of our neighbourhoods remains our key priority. I am currently at the Joint Ministerial Council with the Hon. Premier, meeting with security leaders to advance support for securing our borders and strengthening internal security."
