Governor Designate Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam arrived in the Turks and Caicos Islands on Wednesday to take up her new role as governor of this tiny British Overseas Territory, becoming the first woman and first person of color to represent the Crown here.
The distinguished figure was warmly greeted at Howard Hamilton (formerly the Providenciales International) Airport by Her Excellency the Acting Governor Anya Williams and Commissioner of Police, Trevor Botting.
Daniel-Selvaratnam is set to be formally sworn in at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow (June 29th) at the House of Assembly in Grand Turk, the capital of the islands.
The swearing-in ceremony will be live-streamed on the Governor's Office Facebook page, allowing citizens from across the country to witness this historic moment.
As Governor, Daniel-Selvaratnam will undertake various responsibilities, including representing the British Crown, overseeing national security, the administration of justice, and fostering relations with international partners.
