The Turks and Caicos Islands Diabetic Association (TCIDA) recently received a generous $21,000 donation from the Griffiths and Partners (G&P) Group, which has committed to supporting the association as its chosen charity.
This donation follows last year's $19,000 contribution, bringing the total raised to $40,000.
These funds have enabled TCIDA to launch and sustain several critical initiatives aimed at improving the lives of individuals with diabetes. Among the notable programs:
ID Alert Bracelets: The association has distributed ID bracelets to members, which help ensure timely and accurate emergency treatment for diabetics.
Glucose Monitors: Continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) have been provided to four individuals with Type 1 diabetes who lacked insurance coverage, while 150 Contour Next Glucose monitors were distributed during outreach events for those newly diagnosed or in need of replacements.
Holiday Care Packages: TCIDA supported 100 members, including 50 seniors, by distributing diabetes care packages and grocery gift cards during the last holiday season.
Diabetic Foot Clinics: In March 2024, a series of podiatry clinics across the islands, led by Dr. Rodney Kander, provided expert care and referrals to over 100 patients, helping to prevent complications associated with diabetes.
Branded Supplies: New tents, banners, and t-shirts have improved TCIDA’s public presence during outreach activities, enhancing diabetes awareness and early diagnosis.
Upcoming initiatives to be funded by G&P’s donations include increased health screenings, educational videos, cooking classes, and school tours. Additionally, a gala dinner is planned for November to mark Diabetes Month, and the association will cover the cost of continuous glucose monitors for members for three months.
Kneshia Clarke-Forbes, Treasurer of TCIDA, expressed gratitude for the support, noting the tangible impact the donations have had on their members. Conrad Griffiths, Senior Partner of G&P, praised the efforts of his team in raising $40,000, emphasizing the importance of continuing to support diabetes care and awareness in the community.
