Citizens Action for Free and Fair Elections (CAFFE), a Jamaican-based election monitoring group established in 1997, has answered a request from the Governor’s Office in the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) to oversee the upcoming general election scheduled for Friday, February 7, 2025.

In preparation, a team of four CAFFE members, including two directors of the organization, will travel to the territory this week. Two members, Mr. Anton Thompson, Deputy Chairman of CAFFE and head of mission, and Ms. Audre-Lois Reynolds, Director/Treasurer, are set to arrive on Tuesday, February 4, with the remaining team members, Mr. Robin Baston and Ms. Danielle Dunbar, arriving on Thursday, February 6.

CAFFE’s mission will involve providing non-partisan and independent observation throughout the election process, monitoring the proceedings to ensure they align with relevant international standards and local TCI election laws. The team will observe voter preparation, polling station management, and the counting of votes on election day.

A preliminary statement on the findings will be released shortly after the conclusion of the elections, while a comprehensive final report with recommendations will follow within 30 days.

The presence of CAFFE underscores a commitment to maintaining democratic integrity within the Caribbean region. Their participation is expected to bolster confidence in the transparency and fairness of the electoral process in TCI.

CAFFE expressed gratitude for the opportunity to support the democratic process in the wider Caribbean, emphasizing its role in promoting free and fair elections.

Observation Team Members:

Mr. Anton Thompson – Deputy Chairman, CAFFE (Head of Mission)
