Beware of Ongoing Zoom Scam Calls

The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RT&CIPF) is warning the public to be on alert for a new scam involving fake Zoom meeting requests.

Scammers are contacting individuals under the guise of initiating a Zoom call and then sending a malicious link designed to compromise devices and steal sensitive information.

Superintendent of Division A, Willet Harvey, advises: “Avoid clicking on suspicious links from unknown callers. These scams aim to trick users into compromising their devices. We urge everyone to remain cautious and report any suspicious interactions. Our Forensic Digital Unit is actively investigating these incidents.”

Key Online Safety Tips:

Never Accept Links from Strangers: Clicking on unknown or unsolicited links can result in data breaches, malware, and exposure of personal information.

Verify Before You Click: Always confirm the legitimacy of a meeting link or file, even if it appears to come from a familiar source.

Report Suspicious Activity: If you receive a call or message prompting you to click a link, report it to the police and do not engage further.

Stay vigilant and protect your information.

For more details or to report a scam, contact your local police station, call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477, or use the Crime Stoppers P3 app to share information on suspected fraudsters.
