Create your personal brand and maintain it, this was the overarching theme of the presentation given to the teachers at the Enid Capron Primary School in Providenciales during their first professional development seminar for 2024.
The seminar, which was led by Front Office Manager at Beaches Turks and Caicos, Shaneque Grant, highlighted the need for creating and maintaining a personal brand, reminding the educators of their roles as mentors and coaches for students and their respective communities. “Being able to always represent your brand means that you have to establish and maintain your image, mission, vision and values. Your personal brand must be consistent, relevant, credible and appealing, especially to the children and those who look up to you as role models,” Grant shared.
Christopher Foster, Physical Education teacher shared, “there is always the hidden curriculum that we have to be conscious of. If our verbal and non-verbal communication skills don’t match up, the public and our students will often times gravitate to what they see, rather than what they hear. As professionals, we are always on stage. We are being watched and the young minds are like sponges. They absorb everything.”
Hotel Manager, Sharon Fagan shared that the partnership between Beaches Turks and Caicos and Enid Capron will have a positive long term impact on the children. “This partnership with the schools throughout the Turks and Caicos Islands stands to benefit the children. As a resort, we have made ourselves a channel of knowledge by sharing with our various partners especially in education.”
