
A 44-year-old man charged with rape has been granted bail following his court appearance on Tuesday, February 25.
Jean Valcin, of Blue Hills, Providenciales, faced one count of rape and was released on bail set at $10,000 with one surety. As part of his bail conditions, he must report to the Grace Bay Police Station on specified days and times as directed by the court.
The charge was brought against Valcin by officers from the Safeguarding and Public Protection Unit (SPPU) after an intensive investigation into a complaint filed on March 7, 2024.
The case has been adjourned until April 4 for a sufficiency hearing.
In the meantime, the financial offences case against Lofton Morley Jr., 37, has also been adjourned to April 4, 2025, for a sufficiency hearing.
Morley Jr. appeared in court on February 25 to face multiple charges, including:
28 counts of Theft of a Chose in Action
25 counts of Use of Criminal Property
He remains on bail set at $100,000 under the following conditions:
Surrender of travel documents
Prohibited from leaving the country without court permission
Mandatory reporting to the Chalk Sound Police Station on specified dates
The charges stem from a criminal complaint filed in August 2022 by a Providenciales-based hotel. Following investigations by the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (RTCIPF) Financial Crime Unit, Morley Jr. was formally charged.
In the meantime, the authorities urge anyone affected by sexual assault to report incidents to the Safeguarding and Public Protection Unit at 232-6696 or the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) at 338-4013. All reports will be handled with sensitivity and confidentiality.
