A member of a band of criminal gunmen who opened fire on the Police in the Snake Hill area of Providenciales on Tuesday night did not live to regret his erroneous actions as he was cut down in a return of gunfire.
According to the information arm of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force, at approximately 9:10p.m., on that day, the Police Control Room received a distress call of an armed robbery in the Blue Hills area of Providenciales. In response, an All-Points Bulletin was swiftly issued, prompting officers to mobilize.
Acting on received intelligence, the police said officers intercepted a stolen vehicle believed to be connected to the robbery, in the Snake Hill area. However, upon confrontation, the armed suspects greeted the police officers with a hail of gunfire, initiating a dangerous exchange.
In self-defense, the lawmen returned fire, resulting in the fatal wounding of one suspect. The others escaped in nearby bushes. It is not immediately clear as to whether or not there was any injury among those who fled. The police did not report any injury on their side. It is also not clear if the police recovered any weapons from the scene.
In the meantime, the authorities urge anyone with pertinent information regarding this incident to come forward, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in ensuring public safety and resolving criminal activities.
