
The authorities have apprehended 148 Haitian Migrants at sea on Monday 17th, February 2025.
The vessel was intercepted at 9:07 p.m. by officers of the Marine Branch and the Fisheries and Marine Resources Management following a coordinated operation that included aerial assistance from the United States Coast Guard, marine assistance from the TCI Regiment, TCI Border Force, the Department of Disaster Management and Emergencies (DDME), and the Maritime Operations Center.
The vessel was towed to the South Dock Port containing ONE HUNDRED and NINE (109) males and THIRTY-NINE (39) females (including TWO MINORS), with the occupants handed over to Border Force for processing.
Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police for Strategic Operations, Mat Newton, expressed gratitude to all law enforcement agencies involved in intercepting illegal sloops attempting to enter the TCI. He stated, “Your diligence and collaboration have been crucial in safeguarding and protecting our borders. I want to emphasize further the RT&CIPF’s firm stance against illegal entry into the TCI. Apart from the legal implications, there are also significant risks to life.”
ACP Newton urged those facilitating and encouraging these illegal crossings to reconsider the grave consequences, saying, “Do not endanger your life or the lives of others by embarking on such hazardous journeys.” He also extended appreciation to the community members who reported suspicious activities related to illegal migration, encouraging the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting law enforcement”.
The RT&CIPF can confirm the following statistical data for the year (February 17):
Since the start of the year the authorities have made four interceptions, nabbing 296 irregular migrants, comprising of nabbing 234 males and 62 females. Three minors are numbers among those intercepted.
The RTCIPF asks the public to notify the closest police station, contact 911, the Serious Crime Unit at 231-1842, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-8477 to anonymously provide any information on illegal entry into the TCI.
Additionally, individuals are encouraged to download the Crime Stoppers P3 app to share information anonymously.
